The following is a statement from Haebler Construction with regard to the incident that occurred November 22, 2023 at our Downtown Vancouver, Nelson and Burrard, building site.
This morning an incident occurred while renovations and seismic upgrade work was underway at the historic First Baptist Church jobsite beside the Butterfly Tower. A chimney collapsed, injuring three construction workers. Firefighters and emergency personnel were quick to respond, and all other workers were accounted for.
Three of the workers on site suffered non-life threatening injuries. The workers were treated at site and taken offsite to receive medical attention. Operations at the site have been suspended and an investigation is underway.
We take the safety of our employees and the workers on site very seriously and sincerely regret that this incident has occurred. We are working with WorkSafeBC and the City of Vancouver to investigate and are closely monitoring the care and recovery of the workers.
We wish the workers a speedy recovery and wish to express our gratitude to the first responders for their prompt and effective efforts in helping manage the situation.
